Silly Little Goals.

As January comes to an end I’m reflecting on the changes I’ve made and how they’ve benefitted my journey to my longterm goals. There is a lot brewing in the background; a lot of things that excite me and that excitement is propelling me towards a future that I’m ultra-optimistic about. We all have goals and fantasies for the future, some are more attainable, others more fanciful but they are good motivators or at the very least fun daydream fodder. Today I am choosing to share with you a selection of a few of my more novel desires. They vary in tone, but I believe that each is quite rigorous in their own way and that all will be achieved before I abandon this mortal coil.

Take and Pass an Introductory Level Sommelier Course

I still consider myself green when it comes to the great world of wine, I’ve learned a bit over the past 10 years and have moved from someone who was staunchly anti-grape to embracing a few that have really spoken to me. I wouldn’t be where I am now without the suggestions of various friends and lovers past but I am ever so grateful for their guidance. That being said I would like to pursue this from a more academic perspective, I thrive in a structured learning environment and I want to know the ins and outs of varietals. To be frank, I’d love the confidence boost of speaking about it from a more authoritative position as well as no one likes it when someone pretends to be a no it all and is just talking out of their ass (which i fear is fairly common amongst wine aficionados).  I don’t plan on making this a career, a but at the very least it would scratch my insatiable itch to learn about new things and endow my conversational oeuvre with one more topic. Plus I am just such a sucker for established methods of protocol!

Learn to Fly a Helicopter

When I was a child I was always obsessed with flying, I’d attempt to get as close to the sky as possible climb trees and hanging out in them for entire summer afternoons with a book and a small radio. The desire has always lingered in the back of my subconscious. Now, why I specifically want to learn to fly a helicopter over a plane? I’m honestly not sure! It may be strictly aesthetics (I find helicopters cute and egg like), an affinity for objects with blades (do I have to remind you that I fence?), or the ability to hover and lift off vertically. This is probably the least likely to happen of my list of silly little goals, but I think it will happen one way or another,

Climb the Grand Tetons

A few years ago I took a cross country road trip. I was careful to plan it around a few landmarks and cities that I desperately wanted to visit and one of those was Yellowstone. I expected big things to happen that day but I didn’t know that another National Park would be responsible for a life changing moment. After a long day of driving through Yellowstone I was eager to get to my hotel in Jackson Hole and secure some dinner. The sun was beginning to set and I had my objective in site. I drove through the winding roads and was suddenly face to face with the most stunning view I had ever seen. A vast lake entered my view and in the distance the quirky mountaintops that comprise the Grand Tetons. It was unreal, looked like something out of a Fantasy movie or fairly tale. I sat there with my furry little friend and was obsessed, wishing to stare at that place until my last dying death but that would have to wait a few decades.  Since that moment I’ve always wanted to climb them with one of my good high school friends who is a mountain climber. We are both resolved to do it, and with a guide and enough training, I think it will be one of our most fun adventures yet.
